The Sleeping Beauty - by Ramnath
Back to Reading Lounge

Here lies my sleeping beauty
With his lotus eyes closed, tiny mouth tight lipped
And short hands flung up - like The Little Buddha
As if to say - 'This is Bliss, This is Bliss'...

And while I stand and gaze at him
My heart overflows with happiness
Now, he seems to be floating in water..
Or is it the tears of joy that filleth my eyes...

He came into this mundane existence - Crying
While his kith and kin were a-rejoicing
Foolish, ain't it, I would sometimes wonder
But would caution my mouth for such mutterances.

He would have his parents' Love
That would protect him as a Dove
And invoking all the Blessings from Above
He would embark upon Life - The Greatest Tutor.

But, alas - does he know of the Struggle of Mankind
And of the Maya that, I'm sure, would Bind Of the ups and downs, the Ebbs and Tides
This is Life, Son, this is Life…

The air is filled with a sudden cry - Its him
Shifting sides...
Bringing me down to Reality from Dream
Cautioning my thoughts from a-scream
And, as I lean to wake up my Beauty with a kiss
I hear him say "Dad, This is Bliss, This is Bliss"...

Ramnath is a chartered accountant, who, after his marriage to a musician suddenly rediscovered life... Apart from his profession, he likes to write, sing, do anything that is new and exciting... He has a five year old son.
