Sankara Eye Centre was established in 1997 with the blessings of Kanchi Sankaracharya. Today it is a leading eye care institution providing a ray of hope to the blind. And this has been possible due to the collective efforts of a dedicated team.

The Core
Activity A state-of-the-art, 400 bed hospital, built with community support on 5.26 acres of gifted land provides comprehensive health care with specialised eye care totally free to the rural poor, who constitute 90% of the beneficiaries.
Sankara Eye Bank Recognised as a model eye bank for the nation, the Sankara Eya Bank receives a pair of eyes almost everyday. And is able to provide the "Gift of Sight" to the corneally blind through transplantation.

THE NEED To meet the ever growing demand for community eye care within the country and in other developing nations, Sankara Eye Centre feels the need to expand its activities by Increasing Service Delivery, Updating equipment & facilities and setting up the "National Institute of Community Ophthalmology".
