Sneha - A Story of CompassionA short, contemporary theme was presented by Smt.Chitra Visweswaran at the CANSTOR (Cancer Support Therapy To Overcome Pain) fund-raising event at Chennai. Conceived, directed and performed by Chitra and her students, the story is about how love and friendship can overcome pain. An appropriate theme, befitting the occasion.
The dancers are dancing with abandon, enjoying the beauty of rhythm and movement. Suddenly, tragedy strikes. One of the dancers is diagnosed as having cancer. Her leg is amputated. The shock and hopelessness of the situation is shared by her family and friends. The grief is all-pervasive. There comes along a man who has just had an eye donated to him. Having had his eyesight restored, he is full of happiness. He sees this stricken dancer and urges her to look at the positive side of life. He encourages her to try other things - to write, to enjoy nature and to even play ball. The music was structured around the lyrics of Chandrasekhara Swamigal of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. 'Maithreem bhajatha' retuned by Sri R.Visweswaran was also sung by him. The nattuvangam was by Smt.Kausalya Sreenivasam with Sri Sudhaman on the mridangam, Sri Thiagarajan on the flute and Sri Veeramani on the violin. The dancers with Chitra were Sukanya Ravinder, Lakshmi Ramaswamy, Mridul Vivek Rao, Thenuka Kantatharajah and Preethi Maragadam. |
