India was, and still is, known for one of the richest and finest textile traditions in the world. It would not be an exaggeration to say that this is one of the areas where boundaries between work and worship begin to blur and even disappear. This series incorporates samples of various techniques - Kalamkari, Pichwai, Hand Block Printing, Brocade and Ikat. Unfolding petal by petal, the flower symbolises the maturing of the inner potential - its whole to be dedicated to the source. Representing joy, purity, beauty, aspiration, humility and surrender, flowers pervade Indian life from birth to death. They are there - always - in celebration and worship, in communication and surrender... The Gods of the Hindu pantheon can be viewed as personifications of the powers and energies that sustain the Universe, and are symbols for comprehending various aspects of the underlying reality. These renderings are by eminent artist Thotaa Tharani.
