While she would naturally wake up every morning to the strains of her father's practice sessions, growing up in the hustle and bustle of Bombay exposed her to all forms of music ...ranging from the Ghazals of Mehdi Hassan....to Hindustani classical forms as well.Jayashri's regimented initiation into music was under her father's guidance at the age of four. Her first krithi was Dikshithar's Santhana Gopalakrishnam in Khamas. Under the tutelage of Smt TR Balamani, Jayashri took to the path of pursuing her music seriously and added substantively to her repertoire. Harnessing a facile and mellifluous voice with restraint and dignity she presents her music with a rare charisma which invariably draws a large listening public to her concerts. Today, Jayashri occupies an important place in Carnatic Music's hierarchy and makes bold to becoming-along with an exclusive band of colleagues in the profession-a name to be reckoned with and remembered well into the next millenium. Jayashri's career in the field of Carnatic Music really took a quantum leap in 1992 at Chennai.
