he music of India is the result of a sophisticated and ancient tradition. The beginnings of Indian music can be traced to the Vedas, and music has developed definite laws of theory and practice. The notes of the scale and basic rhythms are said to have come from the Lord himself - and it is not surprising therefore that Indian music developed as an adjunct to worship, and temples were the most important repositories of music and dance.
