Kanchana Chandra

Kanchana ChandraYoung Kanchana Chandran's 9.00 am. Concert on December 10th 1999 for Nada Inbam was replete with Karnataka Suddham which was stressed in the scholarly article of Shri C.V.Narasimhan in the Music Season supplement of The Hindu dated December 1st 1999 on "Excellent Opportunities await youngsters". One noticed this aspect in Marivere in Ananda Bhairavi and Ranga Saayi in Kambodhi, both of which were rendered with great sensitivity and which saw the young artiste in full control. The opening piece of Pranamamyaham in Gowlai was the curtain raiser.

She also enlightened the audience with Sangeetha Samrajya in Mohanakalyani whose composer is Ramamurthy. Its lilting chittaswara has been composed by Shri Lalgudi G.Jayaraman. Durmargachara in raga Ranjini had apt and crisp Kalpanaswaras.

Kanchana ChandraA brisk rendering of Srinivasa in Hamsanandi was followed by the last piece, the Lalgudi Thillana in raga Karnaranjini whose lively tune and rhythm carried the light and classical bend in right proportions.

The violin support by Padma Sankar was excellent . The percussionist young Harish Thyagarajan was adequate.

The future of classical carnatic music seems to be quite safe in the hands of budding artistes like Kanchana.
