A rare artiste in the carnatic circuit.

Bombay JayashriAll the seven concerts during the recently concluded Music Season were consistently good but the reviewer will vote for Bombay Jayashri's concert at the Narada Gana Sabha as the best.

The Vagulabharanam RTP was excellently executed. I have heard this Melakarta Ragam only once before, rendered by Jayashri's grandfather, the late Calicut Viccha Bhagavathar who was popularly known as Badminton Viccha since he was the ruling champion then in Ball Badminton.

All the ragas which followed as an adjunct to the RTP in ragamalika were very aesthetically chosen, well rendered and very pleasing to the ears.

The continuous success story of all her concerts according to Subbudu, is that she is one of the rare artistes in the carnatic circuit who really knows how to use the mike. This may be due to the fact that she was part of a light music group in Bombay before she made up her mind to take up carnatic music seriously and make a mark. In any of her concerts, her success is due to her total involvement.

The Narada Gana Sabha concert had Varadharajan on the violin who was supportive. Neyveli Narayanan on the mridangam and Karthick on the ghatam allowed the melody to flow without impediments. The Thani Avarthanam avoided the unnecessary use of any excess in the decibel level.
