A question of Aesthetics?Mylapore Fine Arts 6 PM slot - Kadri Gopinath Saxaphone - A.Kanyakumari Violin- Haridwaramangalam A.K.Palanivel Tavil - S.Karthick Ghatam - B.Rajashekar Morsing - 21-12-1999.This was actually an orchestra with complete absence of Karnataka shuddham. This was not due to the inherent limitation of the Saxaphone. It was due to the amplification and use of contact mike by the violinist and the violent beating of the Tavil. The decibel level could have affected the tympanum of many listeners. The only relieving factor was the Ghatam and Morsing during the Thani Aavartanams. In other concerts by the same artiste, when the percussion is provided by the Mridangam, the decibel level is comparatively tolerable but the violinist still prefers to use the contact mike.
