![]() Swarnamalya Ganesh"Swarnamalya Ganesh is a promising star on the horizon of Bharatanatyam" - described the News Times in 1994. Initiated into Bharatanatyam at the age of five under the tutelage of Smt.K.J. Sarasa, she had her debut at 12. She has been making a dedicated approach in the field of dance which she has chosen as her mainstay. Her passion for perfection and thirst for adding to her repertoire put her under Bhagavatula Sri.B. Seetharama Sharma of Kalapeetam where she recieved further grooming and also learnt Nattuvangam and carnatic vocal. She has recieved good guidance from the veteran musicologist Sri.T.S.Parthasarathy on the aspects of theory of dance and contents of lyrics. She has given performances in all leading Sabhas during the season and has performed on important occasions like Kanchi Paramcharya's Centenary Celebrations, India's Golden Jubilee, Bharathiar Day, Swati Tirunal Day etc.She was described as the young achiever when she was conferred the prestigious title of Yuva Kala Bharathi by the Bharat Kalachar. Sri.Krishna Gana Sabha acknowledged her talent and merit by awarding "Miss. Lakshmi Viswanathan Endowment Award" for the best presentation of Tanjore Quartette Varnam of the year 1998. She was recently presented at the Nrityotsavam'99 of the South Indian Cultural Association at Hyderabad. Critics of Hyderabad paid eloquent tributes to her and acclaimed her as one of the finest and most mature performers of Bharatanatyam. She has choreographed and presented thematic dance features 'Vande Mataram', a dance tribute to Mother India and 'Yadumahi Nindroy' as a humble offering to the Divine Mother of the Universe. She is on the Executive Committee of the Association of Bharatanatyam Artistes of India (ABHAI) and leads the editorial Board of its News Letter. Her other cultural talents and activities have landed her as a popular anchor person and TV Star on the Satellite Channels Sun and Vijay. Some excerpts from the Press Reviews Swarnamalya Ganesh is certainly among the foremost of the new generation of dancers of this country. There is always a compelling charm in Swarnamalya's dance, primarily, competence in technique, flair in rhythm and eloquence in expressions. Her dance is always, best described as an experience of dynamic beauty. She imbues the style with her own striking personality. She gave an impressive and enchanting recital recently at Bharat Kalachar Natya Utsav... Talent beauty and opportunity rarely combine together and Swarnamalya personified the rare occurance. Swarnamalya's approach to Nritta is neat, with clarity in stamping and precision in footwork. The sancharis for the Sahitya lines, though limited, were apt. Swarnamalya danced with vigour, especially from "Nannu Brova Neeku Bhaarama". Swarnamalya Ganesh in her Bharata Natya Recital at MFC was clearly driven to high levels of performance in tackling the Varnam... It is typical of Sarmaji that he should choose the Nattakurinji Varnam of Srirangam Moolaiveedu Nattuvanar which was choreographed by Rukmini Devi. Swarnamalya's full talents were on display - sure footwork, angassudha, clean adavus and graceful postures that added up to a very creditable effort. It was hard to believe that Swarnamalya Ganesh is only 18 years old. The restraint with which she executed the adavus, her feeling and involvement, her impeccable nritta and abhinaya would have done credit to a much senior dancer. |
