Kalaimamani Smt. Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala

Bharatanatyam is an ancient divine classical dance form which is the embodiment of the mythological and historical traditions associated with the Natyashastra.

Smt.Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala belongs to a family of connoisseurs of Fine Arts. She learnt Bharatanatyam under her illustrious guru "Kalaimamani " Smt. Krishnakumari Narendran, Director, Abhinaya Natyalaya and had her Arangetram in 1978.

Parvathi is an experienced and dedicated dancer for more than two decades on stage and also choreographs and organises programmes. Every movement of her dance whether it be Nritta, Nritya or Abhinaya exudes her deep and austere commitment to the Art.

Parvathi  Ravi GhantasalaMost of her highly acclaimed dance recitals at prestigious sabhas in Chennai were at the Music Academy, Krishna Gana Sabha, Naradha Gana Sabha, Kartik fine Arts, Mylapore Fine Arts, Bharat Kalachar and Tamil Isai Sangam to name a few and also in festivals like Swarna Samaroh, Kalakshetra Foundation, Dehradun's Doon Festival, Brindavan Shamadosta, World Tamil Conference etc and at many places abroad.

Parvathi is an "A" grade artiste of Doordarshan having performed several times in "Kendras" and Central Production Centre, New Delhi. She is also an empannelled artiste of the I.C.C.R., New Delhi. She has been the recipient of the highest award of the state of Tamil Nadu, the "Kalaimamani award".

Her solo compositions of Sri Saint Thyagaraja, Swathi Thirunal, Mahakavi Subrahmanya Bharathiar, Thirumoolar Thirumandiram have been examples of ecstatic blending of the dance with her themes and have known high praise from critics. She has presented dance ballets titled :"Arul Adal". The music was composed by Thiru Arputa of Ramalinga Adigal.

  • "Ambalavananum Aranganum". The music was composed by Kunnakudi Sri R.Vaidyanathan (Thirumari and Divyaprabandam)
  • "Utchi Thilagam ". The music was by Sri L.Vaidyanathan (Abirami Andadi and Padigam).
  • "Annamaiah" (Krithis of Annamachariya). This ballet was compiled by Sri Pasupathi and Sri L. Vaidyanathan.
All the ballets were choreographed by her Guru Smt.Krishnakumari Narendran.

Parvathi is the founder of Kalapradarshini Trust (Centre for performing Arts and Cultural Activities) which plays an active role in the propagation of performing Arts and trains aspiring students in Bharatanatyam, vocal and musical instruments. Kalapradarshini organises two well remunerated dance and music programmes every month. They also propose to conduct Annual Festivals and thereby enlarge the scale and scope of its cultural activities and help to foster a vigorous cultural mileau in the community.
