SRI J.Suryanarayana Murthy

Suryanarayana Murthy Suryanarayana Murthy, a seventh generation Performer Teacher belonging to one of the 15 original traditional Bhagavatulu families of dancers and teachers of Kuchipudi village in Andhra, had his initiation into Kuchipudi dance at an early age. He underwent training at Kalakshetra in Bharatanatyam for three years and continued further study at Bharatha Kalanjali under the Dhananjayans.

Murthy who had his debut in 1988 has since then participated in many dance productions of Bharatha Kalanjali like Rama Natakam, Sangamitra, Navarasa, Iyyakiya Bharatham to name a few and has toured USSR as a member of their troupe to participate in the Festival of India, 1987.

He has performed in Pandit Ravishankar's Ghanashyam, at the Sri Meenakshi Temple Maha Kumbhabishekam at Houston, in International Dance Alliance's dance ballet "Krishnam Vande Jagatgurum", in "Kanya" organised by the Indo-American Association at Houston, "Jungle Book" a collaboration between the Ohio Ballet and Bharata Kalanjali Dance Company of Chennai at Cleveland, Dr.Nagaswamy's dance productions like Thirugnanasambandar, Sundarar Charithram, Dakshya Yagnam, Appar Thevaram and in Vempatti Sri Chinna Satyam's Siva Dhanur Bhangam. He has toured Russia, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Germany, London, USA and France with dance companies and has done research on Thevaram and Thirupugazh under Dr.Nagaswamy.

SRI J.SURYA NARAYANA MURTHYSuryanarayana Murthy has participated in programmes of Sankarabharanam Madras, Shivali Cultural Society , Kalotsavam of ABHAI and Natyanjali Festival at Chidambaram. He has given performances at the Natarajotsava of Vasundhara Performing Arts Centre, Mysore, Thendral Thiruvizha organised by the Directorate of Art and Culture and the South Zone Cultural Centre, Nrityotsava at Trivandrum and at the Natya Kala Conference at Sri Krishna Gana Sabha to name a few.

Suryanarayana Murthy is also an excellent choreographer and has choreographed many dance ballets and innovative items. He has received several awards and is the recipient of the title of "Natya Purna" from the Dhananjayans and the "Yuva Kala Bharathi" award from the Bharat Kalachar, Madras . Suryanarayana Murthy was also awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Human Resources, New Delhi, India on his research work on Thevarams. Suryanarayana Murthy has participated as a Nattuvanar in dance concerts of many eminent dancers and is also proficient in Kuchipudi and Kathakali styles of dancing. Suryanarayana Murthy is an "A" grade artiste of Doordarshan.

Apart from being an accomplished dancer, Suryanarayana Murthy is also a popular teacher of Bharatanatyam . His dedication and single minded devotion to the cause has borne fruit. Today his cherished dream has taken shape in the form of his dance schools "BHARATA KSHETRA" in Chennai from where he continues his mission of imparting knowledge of dance to his disciples and has been successful in training many dancers of professional standard and excellence.
