Kumari Kavitha Ramu

Kavitha Ramu, a senior disciple of Kalaimamaani Smt. K.J.Sarasa is a performing artist in Bharatanatyam. In addition to noteworthy performances at all the Sabhas in Chennai, Kavitha Ramu has also performed at :
  • The Mamallapuram Dance Festival
  • Natyanjali at Chidambaram
  • Festival of Hyderabad
  • Bhartotsav held at Malappuram, Kerala
She got the unique opportunity to perform at the Eighth World Tamil Conference held at Tanjore. Her performance of the "Navarasam" choreographed specially for the conference combining verses from Tamil Classics and set to music by the violin maestro Sri Kunnakudi R.Vaidhyanathan was a rare and unique achievement.

The cultural events for the opening and closing ceremonies of the South Asian Federation Games ('95) held at Chennai were co-ordinated by Kavitha Ramu - and her special performance for the delegates to the Games was a much appreciated one. She has also performed to one of the "Pancharatna Kirtana" during the Bahula Panchami Festival organised by the Thyagaraja Festival Committee, Tirupathi, as well as the "Swatantra Sourabh" organised by the Brahma Gana Sabha as part of the country's golden Jubilee celebrations. Recently Kavitha performed at New Delhi during the Thyagaraja Festival organised by the Shanmugananda Sangeetha Sagha and at the Delhi Tamil Sangam to rave reviews.

Kavitha Ramu has received an award for Excellence in Bharatanatyam instituted by Vipanchi and the Tanjore Quartet Award form the Sri Rangam Fine Arts.

A post graduate in Public Administration, Kavitha Ramu's dedication and passion for research in Bharatanatayam is her calling in life.
